Inpatient — Asylum

• Source: FULL ALBUM on YouTube (sent by me, 2026-08-25)
• Verdict: keep
• Why: a two-hour independently released concept album where every track shipped with its own music video, and it still charted. The anti-label playbook working as intended.

The rabbit hole

Inpatient is the collaborative project of Ren — the Welsh artist who went viral with "Hi Ren," a two-selves rap battle against his own brain, and who does everything independent via his Sick Boi label — and Chris Webby, the Connecticut battle-rap-adjacent weed-rap lifer. Production from JP On Da Track. Released July 22, 2026 on Sick Boi / EightyHD.

What makes it worth the two hours: it refuses to sit still. Old-school boom-bap into ska-flecked punk into storytelling pop, with running characters, skits, and a monster-in-the-ward narrative arc (RockSound's writeup calls it "the sort of record that defines a time and a place"). Webby matches Ren bar for bar, which nobody predicted and everybody involved seems a little surprised by.

Chart receipts, because independent matters: #3 UK Official Downloads, #9 Independent Albums, #38 Album Sales. No label machinery. Lyrics and tracklist at Genius, streaming on Apple Music.
